Toy Lanez should be freed, says Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida’s 13th district. In a message sent to X on Monday (May 19), the Republican asked California Gov. Gavin Newsom to look into the pop singer’s 2020 shooting case and grant Lanez (born Daystar Peterson) a pardon.
She wrote, “I want Gov. Newsom to look into Tory Lanez’s case and grant her a pardon.” It took 10 years to put him in jail because of bad proof, political pressure, and prosecutor bias. Justice should not be based on what the news says. Let Tory Lanez go.
Lanez has been given a 10-year prison term for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the feet after a party in Hidden Hills, California, in July 2020. He was found guilty of three felonies.
Also on Tuesday (May 20), Rep. Luna said through X that new “compelling evidence” will be given in the next 36 hours that will clear Lanez. She wrote, “We have strong evidence proving Tory Lanez’s innocence, and it will be made public within the next 36 hours.” “The people who pushed for his jail time and even worse, used false evidence, should get ready to be held responsible.”
At a news conference last week, Lanez’s supporters from the Los Angeles-based nonprofit social justice group Unite the People said that new evidence had been found in Tory’s case. Walter Roberts, an attorney, said that Bradley James, Kelsey Harris’ bodyguard, filed a statement saying that he heard Harris say that he fired the gun, not Lanez.
Alex Spiro, Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyer, put out a statement denying Roberts’ charges. Torey Lanez was tried and found guilty by a jury of his peers, and the court system handled his case correctly, he said. “This is not a political issue; this was a case of a violent assault that was decided by the law.”
On Monday, the rapper who sang “Savage” also slammed the claims of new proof. She wrote on social media, “FACTS ARE FACTS, he did it, it was PROVEN IN COURT f–k the internet hate campaign TORY YOU SHOT ME!!” “Damn it, you guys have been saying the same s–t for years with no new proof.”
Lanez was stabbed in California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on May 12. He was taken to the hospital with injuries. A statement he put on social media hours later said he had been stabbed 14 times but was in “good spirits” while he was healing. It also said that his lungs had compressed, but he was still breathing on his own when the post was made.
