Exclusive Interview: Rising Artist Lil Mike

1 min read

What is your name and what city do you rep?

Lil Mike from Anderson, IN

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

Talk Heavy is a Hip-Hop/Rap record that represents Lil Mike’s approach to music: being authentic, expressing yourself, and making records that have something behind them rather than just making music for the sake of it.

The record is part of your journey as an independent artist, building your name while staying true to your identity. It also brings together you and T.G.I.FREE, adding a collaborative element to the release.  Creating it was just a reminder that the confidence is there and ready for the competitive spirit that comes with the Hip-Hop game.

What is unique about you and your music?

That it’s authentic, and making sure that it’s real and relatable.
What makes me and my music unique is the authenticity behind it. I make it a priority to keep my music real, honest, and relatable. I don’t believe in creating just for the sake of making music. I want people to hear something they can connect with, whether it’s an experience they’ve lived through, an emotion they’ve felt, or a perspective they may not have considered. I want my music to reflect the human experience, including the imperfections, because that’s what makes it real.

What shaped your music?

What shaped my music is the community and my family

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

Honestly I knew it when I started working on it. Around 11 or 12.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to all types of music. I mostly listen to oldies to stay inspired. But I listen to a wide range of things.

What inspires you to write music?

Life. Talking to people I don’t know or just talking to kids because their imagination is endless.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

Spend time with family and enjoy family quality time.
Happiness to you is…

Being able to help my loved ones and helping the community.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

That it’s going to be a long journey and not everyone is going to like to your music.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

I have a compilation album dropping soon along with more records and visuals as well.
