Neil Young is fed up with President Donald Trump, especially after Donald Trump made fun of Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift.
In a blog post on May 20, the singer of “Heart of Gold” called Trump “out of control” for what he said about the Boss and the “Fortnight” singer on Truth Social a few days before. The president had called Springsteen “dumb as a rock” and “highly overrated” on the stage. He also said that Swift is “no longer ‘HOT.'”
“You are ruining America, Bruce and thousands of musicians think,” Young wrote in response to the harsh words. “Don’t worry about that; worry about the kids dying in Gaza.” That’s the matter. I’m not scared of you. We’re not either. That was the worst time to shut down FEMA. That’s the matter, Trump. DO NOT THINK ABOUT WHAT THE ROCKERS SAY. “Think about how you can fix the mess you made in America.”
“I agree with Taylor Swift. The Canadian-American artist went on to say, “So is Bruce,” referring to the Eras lead singer and “Born in the U.S.A.” rock star’s history of speaking out against Trump’s policies. “You know how I feel.” You care more about yourself than about America. “Get up, Trump.”
This isn’t the first time Young has said something bad about the president. In a harsh open letter in 2020, he called Trump a “disgrace to my country,” and later, he talked about his fear of being denied re-entry into the US after his tour because of the president’s orders. Before Swift’s post on Friday (May 16), Trump wrote a lot of posts insulting artists. This is the latest one by the “Old Man” singer. He wrote on Truth Social, “Has anyone noticed that Taylor Swift is no longer ‘HOT’ since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT?'”
After that, he looked at Springsteen. Trump was angry that Springsteen had said in Manchester that Trump’s administration was “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous.” Trump wrote about Springsteen on Truth Social, “Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics, and most importantly, he’s not a talented guy—Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK.”
Still, that was only the beginning. After a few days, Trump went back to Truth Social to attack Springsteen again. This time, he said that Springsteen, Beyoncé, Bono, and Oprah Winfrey were all involved in Kamala Harris’s “illegal election scam.” When Kamala Harris ran for president, Bruce Springsteen did a terrible job. How much did she pay him for that? He wrote at the time, “WHAT ABOUT BEYONCÉ?”
The president said on Monday, “I am going to call for a major investigation into this matter.” It’s against the rules for candidates to pay for endorsements, which is what Kamala did by saying she was paying for entertainment.
There is no proof that Harris gave money to the artists who supported her, and her team has said she didn’t. That didn’t stop Trump from making the false claim that the opposite was true in his posts, which Young sees as taking attention away from what’s important.
Young ended his Tuesday blog post with the words, “You are forgetting your real job.” “You work for us.” Hey Republicans, wake up! There’s no stopping this guy. We need a real leader!”
