Guitarist and composer Ari Joshua joins forces with Skerik, Delvon Lamarr, and Grant Schroff for Scared of Eric, a striking new instrumental single set for release through Music Factory Records. The song stands as a vibrant tribute to Skerik, whose fearless approach to music has left an undeniable mark on the worlds of jazz, funk, and experimental sound.

Joshua’s composition channels everything that defines Skerik’s artistry—intensity, humor, and unfiltered creativity. Known for his work with Critters Buggin, Garage A Trois, and Les Claypool’s Fancy Band, Skerik has built a legacy rooted in improvisation and risk-taking. His saxophone playing stretches far beyond genre, shaping the sound of a generation of musicians unafraid to bend rules.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Joshua shares, “The first time I saw Skerik perform, I was thirteen. He had this energy that was unlike anything I’d ever heard. Over the years, I kept thinking how amazing it would be to play with him—and to finally create something together feels surreal.”

Musically, Scared of Eric thrives on groove and spontaneity. The track blends the raw energy of live jazz with the deep pulse of funk and psychedelic rock. Delvon Lamarr’s warm organ tones and Grant Schroff’s driving drums form the heartbeat of the song, while Joshua’s fluid guitar lines weave effortlessly around Skerik’s powerful sax.

The single was recorded live by Mell Dettmer at Studio Soli, later enhanced with overdubs and mixes by Jason Gray at Blue Mallard Recording, and finalized with mastering by Doug Krebs. The artwork by Chris Ball (Deepgroove Designs) visually captures the track’s free-spirited energy, turning sound into motion and color.

Scared of Eric isn’t just a dedication—it’s a conversation between musicians who understand each other at a profound level. Through rhythm, melody, and emotion, Ari Joshua and his collaborators deliver a piece that celebrates Skerik’s legacy while continuing his mission: to make music that’s bold, unrestrained, and unapologetically original.
